Whether you are a new scleral lens wearer or have been wearing your lenses for a while, it is important to know the Do’s & Don’ts of caring for your scleral lenses!
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Scleral Lens Do’s:
- Ensure you are using a high-quality, preservative-free scleral saline that is indicated for scleral lens use. The type of product you use matters in your scleral lens success!
- Close your sink drain while lens handling.
- Rinse your lenses with scleral saline prior to insertion.
- Be sure to fill your lens completely. Filling the bowl completely is necessary to prevent air bubbles.
- Store your scleral saline in a clean, dry area at room temperature.
- Always rinse your scleral lens storage case and let it air dry before storing your lenses.
- Be sure to use the appropriate cleaning solution for your lenses, recommended by your practitioner.
- Ensure the lenses are properly placed in the storage case prior to closure.
- Keep a schedule! It’s important to follow the replacement schedule on your indicated storage and cleaning solutions.
- Keep extra storage solution, scleral saline and inserters & removers ready for when you need to handle your lenses away from home.
Scleral Lens Don’ts:
- Never use tap water on your scleral lenses, storage case or inserters & removers. Even if it’s a quick rinse!
- Do not reuse any scleral saline. Any unused solution should be disposed of down the drain and the packaging properly discarded.
- Don’t place the remover on the middle of the lens when taking out your contacts. It is easier to ‘break the seal’ of your scleral lens if placed around the edge of your scleral lens.
- Do not keep your scleral lenses inserted while you sleep (or nap) unless otherwise indicated by your provider.
- Don’t use scleral saline past the expiration date.
